Spring is in the Air

What a beautiful day to wake up to. The birds are chirping and the warm heat from the sun is bringing spring into blossom. The garden spot is cleaned up and now we are waiting on the tiller motor to arrive so we can till the ground. Trigger made it back for the summer, (our horse). We got 2 new additions of hampsters to watch exercise. Let me tell you what I never knew they could run so much but that wheel could run all night long. This could be a science project, maybe we could generate some electricity off that :) Instead of a windmill a hampster mill. Anyway just an update with a thought that the mushrooms have to be getting close.

Garden time

Got the garden tilled, ready to plant seeds today. According to the almanac it is time. The kids are ready. They enjoy planting that garden! If I can just find a way to get them enthused about pulling out the weeds when they pop up we will be doing great!

Taxes

Tax time again, and I have been gathering all the paperwork. It's alot harder when you have your own business when it comes time to taxes. I think I have most of it all done though and looks like we will get back a refund. (Much needed) I got my seeds in the mail I ordered for the garden. I can't wait to plant them. I am going to start an inside garden first so it won't be long.

Getting Ready For Spring

I may be jumping the gun here but I am ready for spring. This 20 degree stuff is getting old. If I can't be all the way snowed in I just want spring to come. I ordered some seeds on the internet and can't wait to get them started. I studied out how to make some home made pots to plant them in and I am ready to start my garden early.

Garden is ready

I just love those cherry tomatoes they are so delicious! I froze 4 big bags of corn on the cob. They will be tasty this winter! My peaches didn't do well this year so no fresh peach jelly. I still have some left over from last year though. Good thing we had plenty last year!

Homestead blessings

Here is a great video with the West girls singing green beans in the garden. They are an inspiring group of singers. This is the ideal life of living in the country. One day I hope to live in the country too. I am sure you will enjoy the singing. Nothing like green beans in the garden and clothes on the line.

Coming closer to Home

I had the weekend off and got alot accomplished. I also put in my two weeks notice and then reality kicked in. How am I going to make my payments? So my plan is to go to part time after I get the next 6 days in out of 7 on the schedule. I am looking forward to spring and planting my garden. Time has already sprung forward and I got up early this morning. This is a miracle :) Time to get ready for work. Have a great day in blog land!

What do you do when you run out of food

Now is the time to be buying extra food and also seeds. You will have to grow your own food when things get real bad. You don't need that much land to grow food. You do need seeds though. Start buying seeds now. Try to read everything you can about gardening and growing your own food. Learn what is edible when it comes to wild plants and what is not! Be sure you know the difference.

A Safe Arrival

Devin and Danielle made it home safely, thanks for your prayers! What a day, got some potatoes planted and some tomato plants. The kids caught some fish and have an outside pond in the old bathtub,and put a catfish in the fish tank in the house. And what else did we come across today, oh ya a snake, so after they got done playing with it, (NON POISONOUS) one they let the poor thing go! The 3 baby kittens we found have been moved so mama cat moved them too because we were playing with them to much I guess, they were so cute though! I hope she bring them back into view soon. We have a few dozen eggs in the incubater that will be hatching in about a week or so and a few chickens that have decided to sit for awhile too! Oh what fun on the farm!

4th of July

It's the 4th of July and fireworks show was last night. We went to my dad's house and watched the Pekin fireworks. It's nice to be with family and friends. I have been working on some homeschool printouts today. It's amazing how many free homeschooling resources you can find online. I plan on studying this week about getting my blog out so it will be in the major search engines. I want everyone to be able to find it easy. I picked some squash today out of the garden. We needed more rain and we got more this afternoon. All seems to be quiet tonight so I may get to bed early tonight. Check back tomorrow to see whats happening in my little world.
