Recap of 2011

It's the end of the year and Christmas is over again. We got some snow but it melted by the end of the day so I am still waiting on that blizzard to hit. With the new year getting ready to ring in we can all hope for a year of putting God first instead of ourselves. We had a rough year in 2011. It is a wonder I survived but I did. Here's to 2012 and getting ready to be self sufficient with the grace of God upon us.

Coupons that work

Ok I have been studying online about all this coupon stuff and trying to put it all together. I bought my sunday papers and started clipping. I bought me a book to keep my coupons in and a new pair of sissors. I went to the grocery with coupons in hand and my local store discount card. I spent over a hundred dollars and got sixty dollars off with my coupons and discounts. That is an extra sixty dollars to save! I am now hooked on this new hobby and can't wait for the next trip to save and stock up the pantry.

Coupons

So I have been talking with others about the great benefit of using coupons and thought why not give it a try. I am open for any helpful hints to get this going. There has got to be a way to save money with coupons and this is something I really want to get into. I remember when I was younger my mom got into it and saved us a lot of money. She also got into the rebates and was getting some real cool stuff too. Give me some ideas about it and let me know about your coupon adventures!

It's Sept already and the leaves are starting to fall. Cool 50's tonight with a slight drizzle of rain. I had to turn on my heater on the way home tonight. Yes Homeschoolers do have homework after hours too!

Indiana Floods 2011

Rain and thunderstorms continue to hit the southern Indiana region this week. School is on a 2 hour delay today due to flooding and road closures. I have not seen this many roads closed in southern Indiana ever. More storms are on the way so we have not even seen the worst of it yet. Guess it's not so bad if you were a duck!

Indiana Mushrooms are Here

This year has been quite a blessing when it comes to morel mushrooms. I was walking around the house the other day and what do you think was standing right by my house, yes a white tasty morel mushroom. Never have I found an edible mushroom in my yard until this year. We have found them by the bags full and the local buyer quit buying them because they are so plentiful in southern Indiana. If you have not been mushroom hunting yet, now is the time to go. It wont be long and they will be gone for the year. The only drawback are the ticks. Be sure to wear some kind of repellent. They are awful this year. I picked 103 ticks off the little one after one mushroom hunting trip so we learned our lesson the hard way. They don't like vinegar and garlic so be sure to put it all over you!

Camping Season Begins

Warm weather pushed in with the opening of Spring Break and the camping fever set in. We took advantage of the 70 degree weather and took a hike out on the KT. Better known as the Knobstone Trail. After a brief hike and loaded down with camping gear we set up for camp as we watched the wildlife and enjoyed the forest. We met a group of hikers pressing on through the woods as they enjoyed the KT also. This is just the beginning of a great year as long as the weather holds out.

Mushroom Hunting Season

It's that time of the year the grass gets green, the snakes crawl out and the mushrooms pop up! My son's friend went mushroom hunting and found one. Yes one black morel. So with the thought of a morel actually surfacing brings out mushroom hunters across the state. Hoping for a bag of shrooms myself we ventured to the woods for a slight chance to find a few. No morels yet just some signs that it wont be long.

Church Lessons

We attended a local church today and I was quite impressed with the sermon. The preacher talked of a boy who said his dad was a great dad who didn't drink, smoke or do drugs, attended church on Sundays and Wednesday. One day his dad brought home a friend who stood for all those bad things and invited it to move in. The son just couldn't understand why the dad would allow such bad things to be moved into their family. Later that son figured out as he went to visit others that they too had a friend who did all those worldy things living with them too. Would you guess he was talking about a television? What do tv's usually promote? Sex,violence, drugs and alcohol. It was a very interesting sermon that is for sure!

Nutella Mommy Parties

Let the party begin! I love parties and what makes a better party than Nutella The original hazelnut spread. I received a party pack from Mommy Parties for a product named Nutella. I must admit I had never tried this product before but was excited to try it and share it with my friends and family. Fed-ex showed up and there it was, my party pack. So excited I opened my package to find a great Nutella Party kit ready to be put together. I immediatly got on the phone and started buzzing about this new product to find out some of my friends had heard of the product but had never tried it either. They were just as excited as I was to try it out too! I read through the information packet and looked through the kit. There were Nutella sample packs and coupons,Nutella tumbler mugs, (biodegradable may I add),Nutella spreaders,Nutella breakfast tip cards,Nutella advertorial and a info card. Well I like to spread parties out so it wont be just one day of delicious fun with Nutella.

We started the sampling process already and so far we have recieved 3 for sure likes out of 3. I have begin putting the party bags together and my friends are thrilled to try the new product along with their very own samples too.
The Nutella Hazelnut Spread with Skim milk and Cocoa has over 100 hazelnuts per jar, contains No artificial colors and No Artificial Preservatives! If you have never tried this product like I, you will be suprised when you open the package, it looks like a big jar of Chocolate. I am a chocolate lover and to me it had this delicous chocolate flavor that just melts in your mouth. Now tell the kids they are having Nutella for breakfast and they love it! My kids say "Can I have some more?" An example of a tasty yet balanced breakfast includes a glass of skim milk, orange juice and Nutella with whole wheat bread. Simple to prepare and a big hit with most everyone!

Disclaimer: I received free Nutella Party Products for my party and review. All opinions in this post are mine.

Teeth Pulled Today

I went to the dentist today and got 3 teeth pulled. I found out I have to get all my upper teeth pulled. I have been in a lot of pain with my teeth over the last few years and will be happy to just get them pulled out. We are using our tax refund to get some dental work done and will have enough to get upper dentures too. I will be glad when this is all over with. Getting your teeth pulled out is no picnic!

Troubled Teens

Well it's been a while since I have blogged due to the fact that there are many troubled teens in the world!! Why do kids have to be so mean to other kids? Peer pressure used to be a big issue back when I was in school and now with technology it seems to be at an all time high. Cell phones, internet, social networking groups, and public schools are just open opportunities for the so called bully. I have found it very important not just to monitor my teens behavior but also keep an eye on the so called friends and others that are involved with everyday life. A lot can happen in a matter of minutes when it comes to teens and we must stay on our toes every second when it comes to their safety. I encourage all parents to monitor the online activity that your teen is involved with even to the point of finding out passwords and all internet activity. It may save their life one day.

Happy Birthday Harrison

Happy Birthday Harrison. Wow 15 years old already. Time flies quicker than you think. Even though times are tough and we couldn't afford a big party, we still enjoyed time together as a family and eating some birthday cake and ice cream!

Bryant's Update

School has been back in session the last couple days now. It's a big 32 degrees outside today so Addie and I ventured out and got a couple loads of wood brought in for the night. Cooking chicken for dinner in the crockpot. We read the book 101 Dalmatians today, I wonder just how many times we have read that book. Dinosaur train is playing in the background, one of the favorite shows around here. Time marches on.
